Odisha once in the past is called Orissa and Utkal territory of India, arranged in the northeastern piece of the country. it is surrounded by the state of Jharkhand and West Bengal to the north and northeast, by the Bay of Bengal to the east, and by the state of Andhra Pradesh and Telangana to the south side and Chhattisgarh to the west side. before independence in 1948, Odisha's capital was at Cuttack. the present Capital is Bhubaneswar, in this city also called the temple city of India. many historic temples and many more tourist places are in the east-central plains. in late 2010 as per the 113th amendment of the constitution the state's name was officially changed from Orissa to Odisha and language Oriya to Odiya.

Forest Area: The recorded forest area of the Odisha state is 61,204.17 sq km which constitutes 39.31% of the State's Geographic area. The Reserved Forests including proposed Reserves, Protected and Unclassed including Private Forests are 58.90%, 40.75% and 0.35% respectively of the recorded forest area.

The total population of Orissa as per the 2011 census is 41,974,218  out of which male are 21,212,136 and female are 20,762,082 approx.
